FINAL HOURS: CHECKLIST & WHAT COMES NEXT

Hello Agents & Operatives,

Welcome to the final hours of this campaign. What an amazing ride this project has been! These past 30 days have been fantastic, starting with a massive first day and continuing that enthusiasm and excitement right up until the end. We gained backers and support throughout every step of the campaign, and community we've built has been awesome.

As I prepare to post this, we are just about SEVEN HOURS from the end of this campaign, and approaching an amazing finish!

Great job, everyone!

We've had a bunch of new backers join in over the past few days (hi, new backers!), and many backers adding on to their rewards or changing their reward levels. I wanted to  review the overall method to ensure you've set up your rewards, and then talk about what comes next.

1. REWARD TIER, ADD-ONs, PLEDGE TOTAL

Please ensure you've selected the Reward Tier that best represents your desired rewards for this project. An update breaking down all of the Reward Tier decisions is HERE <link>, summarized by this chart:

Once you're sure you've selected the correct Reward Tier, double-check to see if there are any rewards that you want to include via ADD-ON, as described in the update HERE <link>.

Your REWARD TIER determines what your base rewards are - you must select a Reward Tier to receive those rewards. Again, your reward list is based on your Reward Tier, not your total pledge amount.

Your PLEDGE TOTAL is the sum of your REWARD TIER + SHIPPING + ADD-ONs.

Shipping is calculated automatically by Kickstarter, based on your location. Add On rewards will be selected in the post-campaign pledge manager sent out once payment processing is complete.

SO: Ensure that you've selected the Reward Tier you want, and included funding for any Add Ons you wish to include. AND - make sure that you are comfortable with the Pledge Total amount, in terms of it covering everything you want and its' affordability.

And remember - any physical reward Add On (additional copies of the book or the Storyteller Screen) can only be added to reward tiers that include the hardcover book (Agent reward tier and higher).

AGAIN: Review your pledge amount and make sure it is affordable for your circumstances. Remember, you are pledging this amount to fund the creation of the Technocracy Reloaded PDF + deluxe hardcover book. As a thank you, you'll be receiving the rewards listed for your chosen Reward Tier on the Reward Tier chart, plus any that were added via Stretch Goal. We've come a long way on this journey, but there's still a long (and exciting!) road ahead of us, so this is the last chance to turn back before we press on!

One other thing - check out the preview manuscript <LINK> which contains the complete working manuscript for the Technocracy Reloaded book. This is the project you've pledged to support and help turn into a finished work! Make sure that you understand what you're getting into here, as I don't want anyone to be caught off-guard thinking they were supporting anything other than turning this manuscript into an awesome deluxe version to add to your M20 collection. 

I'm going to speak against my own self interest for a moment, and repeat myself one last time - the world has become a bit more unpredictable and some futures are a little less certain. Ensure that your circumstances enable to afford this pledge at this moment - Kickstarter will begin processing payments after the campaign ends and neither Onyx Path nor I have any involvement in that process. If you are unsure of your financial situation but don't want to miss out, please pledge for a tier you can afford now and know that you will likely be able to upgrade to open pledge levels in our post-campaign Pledge Manager for some time before the book is completed.

2. PAYMENT AND CONTACT INFORMATION

Once you're comfortable with your pledge, please ensure that the payment and contact information in your kickstarter account is up to date and correct. Making sure your e-mail is entered correctly and your credit card isn't expired will speed up the next step process. (I have learned from experience!)

WHAT COMES NEXT?

3. AFTER THE CAMPAIGN ENDS

First, we celebrate. Kickstarter will send out a "Hooray!" email confirming the campaign ended with final totals. We'll give high fives and fist bumps in the comments section.

Then, the Kickstarter payment process begins. Over the next week, kickstarter will begin charging your payment methods for the total amount you've pledged.

If there is an issue with your payment method (expired credit card or incorrect number or pre-paid Visa awaiting funds, for example), Kickstarter will keep trying to process payment during this time.

Once this step is done, which will likely be mid-June, Kickstarter will confirm everything with Onyx Path and I can begin to set up the project with BackerKit and link it to the Kickstarter data.

BackerKit is a robust fulfillment integration and pledge management program that will allow us to work with all of the data and distribute the rewards to you. It will take me a few weeks to set the project up. Once I've got it all entered and built, the team from BackerKit will review to ensure I didn't mess anything up too badly, and then I'll make any changes they've suggested and we can move on to the Survey stage.

4. BACKERKIT SURVEYS

Once BackerKit says I'm good to go, I will send out a survey to all backers. This is why confirming your e-mail is important!

The BackerKit survey is both a verb and a noun - it will collect data for the analysis of some aspect of a group (enabling Onyx Path to set print runs, prioritize new projects, and fine-tune future kickstarters), as well as providing a general review or summary of the reward tier you've chosen, confirm all of the rewards associated with that reward tier, and confirm your total pledge amount.

I expect Surveys to go out by early July. If you opted to include any Add-On rewards to your pledge, this is the point where you will select them. BackerKit will deduct the cost of your reward tier (+shipping) from your total pledge and show you how much you have to allocate for add-on purchases. You simply select the ones you want and proceed. From that point forward, those add-ons will be included in your list of rewards.

During the Survey period, you can also also choose to increase your reward tier. If you've gone back to work or found an alternate income source and decide it's time to trade up to get two copies of the book or include another add-on, you can do so at this time. Note, you will not be able to reduce your reward tier selection, only increase.

If there was an issue with payment to Kickstarter, you should also be able to address that at this point in the process.

The survey will ask you to confirm your shipping address, even though it'll be some time before we ship out the final product. Do not worry about moving before shipping begins - you will be able to update BackerKit right up until the point that we begin fulfilling the final book. We will send out a notice prior to lock down so you can update any information.

I'll also use the Survey to confirm some details for the limited and premium reward tiers.

5. REWARD DISTRIBUTION

This is a long process, but I will send out regular updates (usually at the end of the month) to keep you up to speed on our progress. There will be strings of updates that are just "still working on it," but I will share new artwork or information when I can.

Eventually, we will have a completed PDF of Technocracy Reloaded. We'll take some time to distribute, review, and compile any errata or corrections that need to be made. When we've made any necessary changes, we'll send out updated copy of the PDFs and then begin creating print-ready files for the Print-on-Demand and hardcover version.

It's yet another long process ahead, but one that we wouldn't be on if not for your faith and support.

We're in the final countdown of this Technocracy Reloaded kickstarter project-  it ends on Thursday, May 28th at 2:00 PM Eastern US Time - we're likely to pick up some additional backers, but we're definitely drawing to a close. With that in mind, I wanted to touch on two more basic pieces over the next 48 hours to make sure that everyone has all of the information they need to support the project in the way that works best for them.

Whether you're backing your first project (thank you!) or a veteran of 100 Kickstarter campaigns, these are good items to review to make sure that we all end up where we want to be.

(An aside, if you're a new backer, make sure you check out the MANUSCRIPT PREVIEWS that have been posted - the entire manuscript is available to review before the campaign concludes and before Kickstarter collects any funds. Please - make sure that this is the campaign you want to support and you're all in before funds are collected).

Refresher Course

We've had, and will have, a lot of new backers join in during these last days. I want to take a moment to highlight some key Update posts that new backers may want to check out (and existing backers may want to read as a refresher!).

MANUSCRIPT PREVIEW - As noted, the complete Preview Manuscript is available for you to review prior to the conclusion of the campaign. If you're a backer, you'll have access to this preview manuscript after the campaign. Remember, though, there are still some minor edits, development and proofing that need to be done. But, you can consider this about 96.8% finished. Making the manuscript available for review before the campaign ends ensures that everyone know exactly what our goal is - making this book - and are on board with our aims for this project. Thanks for your support, we're all in this together!

May 23 update - REWARD TIERS - your best starting point for figuring out which Backer Reward Level to choose to help support this project.

May 25 update - ADD ON REWARDS - the important companion piece to the Reward Tiers topic, including information on how to increase your pledge amount to add the Technocracy PDF bundle from earlier editions, the Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary PDF, a Technocracy Reloaded Storyteller Screen, as well as other M20 material.  

If you've been looking at the Premium Reward Tiers - the expensive ones that offer a bit more interaction with the setting, system, and design team - there's always some churn near the end so some rewards that were completely claimed may become available again before the end.

Choosing the correct Reward Tier for your desired rewards, and then filling in any "gaps" with add-ons, ensures that you'll be claiming all of your desired rewards as a thank you for supporting this project and bringing this world to life.

Remember, your TOTAL PLEDGE AMOUNT is equal to your REWARD TIER + SHIPPING + ADD ONS. And we will confirm your Add On selection with our post-campaign pledge manager, Backerkit, a few weeks after the campaign ends.

On Thursday, I'll be posting one further "Final Day" update, covering What Happens Next and outlining what to expect once the campaign ends.

But until then, we're going to hopefully complete a final Stretch Goal hunt (or two!) as we race through our final days of the campaign!

In fact, we've added another 2 Stretch Goal achievements to our lengthy list of unlocked rewards and opportunities.

Today, I am going to talk about ADD ON reward options. On Wednesday, I'll share our Stretch Goal accomplishments and reward review, and on Thursday, before the campaign finishes I will post an update with a Final Checklist & What Comes Next.

First Step: Reward Tier

The absolute best way to ensure that you're getting all of the available rewards you want from this kickstarter is to ensure you've selected the appropriate Backer Reward Tier, as detailed in our Reward Tier Update. Selecting the right Reward Tier covers about 95% of the options available to you. If you want the PDF only, make sure you've selected the correct reward. If you want the hardcover version, double-check your reward tier to ensure it's featured. If your going digital now but want the option of getting a discounted Print-on-Demand copy later, make sure you've got a reward tier that includes it.

Once you've completed that important step, you're going to want to look at the Add On rewards for any reward "bits" that don't automatically fall into your reward tier. That takes us to the Add On step.

Step Two: Add-Ons.

If you've selected one of the "core" Reward Tiers, you've likely already included most of the rewards you want. In addition to the rewards offered as part of the Reward Tier configurations, there are a few other possible rewards you may wish to add. All Add-On rewards will be described below.

Each add on includes an extra amount to add on to your total pledge amount. Remember that your total pledge amount includes all shipping charges and not just your reward tier level.

Using myself as an example, my EXTRAORDINARY CITIZEN Reward Tier is a $30 pledge, and since I'm just going digital with no shipping and have no extra Add On rewards, my total pledge amount is also $30.

First off, can you believe I was only Backer #4?! I've gotta get quicker fingers! 

I can scroll down or read the kickstarter rewards page to review the list of rewards with my Tier. After seeing the manuscript previews and the artwork that's been shared so far, I think this is a book that will be referenced a bunch and could be passed around my gaming table fairly frequently, but I'm not yet 100% sure of my plans. So, to hedge a bit for possible future activity, I think I'm going to upgrade my pledge to include the discounted Print-on-Demand option, in case I want to have a hardcopy version at some point in the future. 

Going over the Reward Tier Chart, I see that the OPERATIVE reward tier offers both the PDF and PoD Option for Technocracy Reloaded, so that's what I'd like instead.

So, it's time to CHANGE MY PLEDGE. In the iOs app, you can do that by selected the three little dots in the top left corner, or selected MANAGE MY PLEDGE in the desktop version.

And when I Choose another reward, I pick OPERATIVE...

Once I've selected this reward, it displays the Total Pledge Amount before confirming.

So, my Total includes my Pledge Amount for my reward tier (the minimum is $35 that covers the OPERATIVE reward tier) plus shipping if required. I'm digital only at this point, so no extra shipping charges.

Before I hit confirm, though, I must confront my dark secret - while I've really enjoyed reading the Technocracy Reloaded Kickstarter preview manuscript and I'm starting to think how I'd run a Technocracy-focused game... I don't actually own the Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition core book. I totally missed out on the original Kickstarter and hadn't yet added it to my digital library.

So, I decide to not only get the Technocracy Reloaded book, but I also see that the Mage 20 PDF is available as a +$20 Add On Reward. so to account for this, I'll adjust my total pledge to account for this Add On reward amount. My new total will be $55: 

Of course, I should take my own advice and follow the steps. First is choose your Reward Tier - so I review, and I see the DIGITAL ARCHIVIST reward tier not only includes the Mage 20 PDF, but also includes the discounted Print-on-Demand option for that book as well! I decide to make the jump one more time and choose another reward tier that includes all the base rewards I want.

So, now I go back to Choose Another Reward and select the Digital Archivist reward tier:

And... well... OK, I've got the correct Reward Tier for what I want: the Technocracy Reloaded PDF and the Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary PDF - plus discounted PoD options for both, should I decide to have copies at the table in the future. But now that I'm going in on the Mage 20 book, and I've been looking at the Add On options, I decide I want to add two more things...

I'm going to add on PDF copies of the M20 Book of Secrets (+$10) as well as the M20 How Do You Do That? (+$8) books! Those Add On options total a +$18 increase, so I adjust my total pledge amount one final time:

So, I've selected the Reward Tier that works best for me - the Digital Archivist - which includes

•  Technocracy Reloaded PDF
•  Technocracy Reloaded PoD Option
•  Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary PDF
•  M20 PoD Option

And then I adjust my total pledge amount to include additional funding to cover my Add On options:

•  M20 Book of Secrets PDF for +$10 
•  M20 How Do You Do That? PDF for +$8 

Since I'm not pledging for any physical rewards, there are no additional shipping charges to Canada, and my final pledge total amount is $78.00

•  $60 for the Digital Archivist Reward Tier
•  +$18 for my Add On Reward Selections

Once I've done that, I click Confirm (or Updated Pledge or Continue, depending on your browser and interface).

A note for non-U.S. Residents (like me) - all currency show is in US Dollars, so be aware of exchange rates when planning your purchase.

It's important to note that there is NO PLACE in your kickstarter reward tier pledge to indicate which add-ons you wish to include, or give any reason why you are adjusting your pledge to a new amount. You aren't adding items to a shopping cart in this scenario - instead, you're adding pledge dollars that you will assign once the campaign ends. With this in mind, you may want to make a note of which add-on items and the associated add-on dollar amounts you've included if you're forgetful like I am.

About a month after the campaign has ended and Kickstarter has processed your payment, I will send out a survey via Backerkit - a complex system of tools used to manage the back-end of the kickstarter fulfillment process. When you receive the survey, you will confirm your Backer Reward Tier and assign your pledged dollars to any add-on items that you wish to include. I'll repeat and expand on this information in an upcoming post about "What Happens Next?" in Thursday's update.

DIGITAL REWARDS

In addition to the rewards listed in each Reward Tier, backers can increase their overall pledge to add on the following additional rewards. Simply increase your total pledge amount by the value indicated – we will confirm which add on rewards you’ve chosen via BackerKit surveys after the campaign has run, as mentioned.

Another use of your PDF redemption code to share with a friend. Multiple copy reward tiers (such as the Supervisor tier) automatically gain additional redemption uses as part of their reward.

The Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary PDF is already included in the Digital Archivist and Deluxe Archivist reward tiers. 

One of our earliest Stretch Goal achievements, this is a PDF bundle of earlier-edition Mage: The Ascension titles available to be added to any reward tier for only $25. This PDF bundle includes:

 PHYSICAL REWARDS 

All physical items that will require shipping (additional books, storyteller screen) can only be added to reward tiers that already include a hardcover copy of Technocracy Reloaded (Reward Tiers of $75+). Your rewards will be sent in a single shipment when the book becomes available.

For only +$20, Add On a sturdy, three-panel screen featuring a collage of Technocracy Reloaded art on the outer side, and a selection of charts and other reference info on the inside to make running a Technocracy-focused M20 game session a little bit easier.

Can be added on to any reward tier containing a hardcover book by increasing your total Pledge Amount by +$20 and then confirming your selection in our Post-Campaign Pledge Manager.

You can add additional copies of the deluxe Technocracy Reloaded hardcover book to your list of rewards via the Add On process as noted above. You can only add "additional copies" - your reward tier MUST include at least one hardcover as part of the pledge level rewards. For US residents, please add +$70 per additional copy. For non-US residents, please add +$90 per additional copy.

REWARD DELIVERY

With the exception of Technocracy Reloaded and the TR Storyteller Screen, all of the Add On items are currently available in PDF form. About a month after the campaign has ended, I'll launch our post-campaign Pledge Manager to collect information from all backers and confirm which rewards you'll be receiving. At this point, you'll also confirm which Add On Rewards you've paid for. Once we have that information, I'll be sending special redemption links to claim your digital rewards from our partners at DriveThruRPG.com. Clicking these redemption links will allow you to add these PDF titles to your digital library to download anytime.

So, while it will take some time for Technocracy Reloaded to move from it's manuscript form to a final product, you won't be waiting a year for PDFs that already exist. (You'll be waiting about 6 weeks or so, just enough time for us to set up the reward infrastructure.)

Physical Books

It's going to take some time to create the PDF for Technocracy Reloaded and even longer for the eventual print run. When the book is at the printer, I will be in touch with all kickstarter backers and go over lockdown procedures and confirming addresses one final time.

Don't fret if you had forgotten to increase your pledge amount to cover an Add On by the end of the campaign. These Add Ons will be available to select in our post-campaign Pledge Manager. So, if you are undecided at this time, you will be able to hold off until we're closer to the final reward shipment goes out.

I know that I'm still looking at that Technocracy PDF bundle to maybe add on, so if I forget before the end of the campaign, I can add it in our Pledge Manager.

Add Ons AFTER Reward Tiers

Again, your first step should always be choosing the proper reward tier. I've had a few backers ask about adding a second hardcover copy to their AGENT reward tier. You are much better off selecting the Multiple Copy Reward tier if you want an additional copy (SUPERVISOR).

It probably goes without saying that all funds are expressed in US Dollars, although Kickstarter displays the approximate conversion rate.

It Adds Up!

That should explain the process of Selecting your Reward Tier and increasing your TOTAL PLEDGE AMOUNT to account for any additional rewards you wish to receive. Since increasing your pledge amount increases the overall funding level of the project, add-ons can help us achieve our funding target, so it benefits us all to suggest that you double-check to make sure you're getting all of the rewards you want.

Additionally, this may go without saying, please review your personal budget and ensure you've selected the appropriate reward tier and add ons for your current financial situation. Kickstarter will begin charging your payment method once the campaign ends, so ensure you've budgeted correctly.

Conclusion

As we move through these final days of the campaign, please ensure you've chosen the correct Reward Tier for the rewards you want. And beyond that - please make sure you've adjusted your TOTAL PLEDGE AMOUNT to include the additional funds that will cover any add-ons you wish to receive.

On Thursday, just before the campaign ends, I will send an update detailing the steps that occur after the campaign concludes, including how and when to confirm your add-on rewards.
